Sometimes i get homesick for places i have lived. There were things i hated about Finland, but when i remember.. i remember the friends i made (and miss), and the things i loved. And i loved voisilmäpulla. “Butter eyed buns” They are sweet buns spiced with cardamom. You poke a hole in the middle stick a cube of butter in and cover with sugar. They are lovely indeed. This was my first try and i think they turned out nice enough. But next time ill add more sugar.

They look great – there’s apparently a butter shortage in Finland at the moment, so we might not be able to get them here! I’d like to learn to make piirakka.
thats next on my list. part of the usefullness of the grain mill. rye flour isnt too easy to find here but rye grains isnt difficult to locate and now i can grind my own flour. let me know if you find a reasonable recipe.
